So after 5 episodes, I'm still happy that it's back. I mean the Juniors are awesome but the thrill and drama's on this version.
They didn't show the auditions as with the past seasons. But wow first episode claws are coming out so is erm... their unique personalities.
Welcome the new judge Christina Tosi as Joe steps down from the MCUS panel, I think he's still a judge on one of the franchise. Ms Tosi is a pastry chef and co-owner of Momofuku Milk Bar. I think that adding an odd one out balances the judging panel. Both Graham Elliot and Gordon are chefs but Joe being the odd one out is a restauranteur who's on the business side of things, tho he knows his stuff. This time Christina comes from, let's admit, the side that's been deemed stereotyped to. Just because there pastry chef they don't now how to cook except bake and make desserts. I hope she proves people wrong. So far her personality is showing to be sweet (lol compared to Gordon) but the past episode she's showing a bit of her claws xD
First of the bat, 20 homecooks thought that, well they're in the top 20 now to compete. But as we all know these shows will try to throw in something to make it more challenging and get more viewers (haha). So they got another 20 home cooks to vie for the top spots. A pair, or a couple depending on their style of cooking were made to compete at each other. Baker vs baker, chicken dish vs chicken dish and so on. In the end the judges chose 22 to compete. I was actually rooting for Taylor vs Katrina battle. For one I didn't like Katrina's attitude. Crying, frustrated look just annoys the hell outta me. Taylor for me is someone who still have the potential to learn and grow more. Have that confidence, drive and humble attitude to go further. Aside from the fact that if you push him he's going to push back harder and kick someone's ass. Sadly at the all or nothing battle to the top 22 he lost to Stephen and Shelly.
From then to the lastest episode 5, 4 from the top 22 have been eliminated. Double elimination from the top 22, Briana and Mateo got eliminated.
Highlights not so much for me but damn personalities really makes a difference here. Rocker Derrick really got that suave angst thing going on but he's overconfident and hopefully it doesn't kick him in the ass later on. Farmer Stephen is someone I disliked after being an ass. At first knowing what he does, I'm like much respect but after showing America how much of a potty mouth and an ass he is, I'm like wtf k bye. He also reminds me of a Bipolar in a manic stage. Christopher, the Asian guy has some issues too. He's always on the defense, to the point that it's way out of the line and totally embarrassing. Tommy (sorry it's obvious and if I'm offending anybody) gay and fabulous, please tone down the bitchy attitude.
First team challenge for the top 20, Kerry and Darah became team captain chosen by the judges. Each team have to prepare a burger and fish and chips where they have to serve theme park visitors (Knotts Berry Farm). There weren't any much vote of confidence with Kerry vs Darah due to his HR ofc background, but from what I've seen on this episode he did much better than Darah (theme park employee).
Kerry's red team was able to plan and delegate quickly so they can start their prep. While Darah's blue team struggled with her laissez-faire leadership.
To quickly shorten this one, Kerry's team struggled with the demand but was able to pull through. Kudos to Nick for stepping up.
Darah's team with her weak leadership skills and weak team skills x.x whom I've seen cheering... CHEERING!!! her team on... wtf, gurl do some work, chop or prep something, you're personality's not helping at this moment. They struggle because nobody's helping poor (I'm being sarcastic here too at the same time) Katrina. Ask... for... help... Tommy isn't helping either, running his mouth instead of helping to speed things up. Kudos to Claudia for stepping up for this team and Derrick for also pulling through.
Even though the cheeseburger got more cheers than red's burger, knowing how much of a train wreck blue team is. My guess was right with the red team winning.
Elimination challenge was cringe worthy. Darah made me hate her. Really saving the asses of mates that aren't deserving to be saved for half of your votes? Not saving Derrick and Katrina? Girl's blind. The personality of the ones she chose didn't help them to win. Why? Production was slow, they missed more plates. And from the people who got interviewed, clearly they loved their burger version and their beer batter. The only good decision she did was not saving herself. In the end she lost the cinnamon challenge and was eliminated.
My viewpoint with team challenges with group this big, get an assistant or second in command. It's a team challenge, do things that'll save your team from elimination not lead them into it. If your second in command see something you don't that person can delegate or step in to that role. Communication from front to back. What happened to Katrina was that she has the tendency to shut down especially when pressured and/or stressed.
Nick, Claudia and Derrick did well as they stepped up, and did their best to save their team. They we're speaking up, but sadly for the blue team it was going into deaf ears.
(Like I said these are my views, I only have an inkling for stressful situations but not with their particular dilemma)
This latest episode crabs were the mystery challenge. And is indeed a challenge for Hetal whose a vegetarian. I for one don't know how to cook or even know how to eat crab properly thus I'll usually opt for the crab cakes lol. 1/3 I guess with most chose to go that route and it looks really delish. Jesse, so far someone whom I have not noticed since this latest episode made noise with his crab pot sticker (sorry i forgot) soup and won this round. As per usual he got advantages and one of them is not cooking from the elimination. Which (duh) saves him to the next episode.
Quite dramatic on how they revealed the star ingredient for the elimination challenge which turns out to be corn. Jesse's other advantage is to pick for the other remaining contestants on how they will prepare this start ingredient. The option is between sweet and savory. Jesse picked savory for the strong competitors in which Gordon noted that these competitors might overthink what they have to prepare on the other hand Jesse chose sweet for the weak competitors in which he hoped to weed them out.
In this challenge Stephen and Shelly won and would lead the next team challenge. While Justin, in my opinion let his anger pull him down. He let Jesse's mind play got to him.
Seriously this shit is going better lol! Can't wait for the next episode.
